Somers Point Street Hockey Bylaws

 

ARTICLE I

 

The name of the organization is Somers Point Street Hockey

 

ARTICLE II

 

Objectives of Somers Point Street Hockey Association

          1 To promote self esteem and sportsmanship in all who participate

          2 To teach fundamental aspects of street hockey to coaches and players

          3 To train and condition children to compete at a healthy level

          4 To enable communal social interaction between parents and children

          5 To nurture and environment of fun

 

ARTICLE III

BASIC POLICIES

 

1 Somers Point Street Hockey Association shall be noncommercial                                       

   nonsectarian and nonpartisan.

 

          2 The name Somers Point Street Hockey Association or names of any

             members in their official capacities shall not be used to endorse or

             promote a commercial concern or in connection with any partisan

             interest or for any purpose not appropriately related to the

             promotion of the objectives of the Somers Point Street Hockey

             Association

 

          3 Somers Point Street Hockey Association may cooperate with other

             agencies and organizations concerned with child welfare, but persons

             representing the Somers Point Street Hockey Association in such

             matters shall make no commitments that bind the Association

 

          4 No part of the net earnings of the Somers Point Street Hockey

             Association shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributable to     

             Its’ members, directors, trustees, officers, or any other private persons

             except that the Association shall be authorized and empowered to

             pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make

             payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth

             in Article II hereof

 

5 Not with standing any other provision of these articles, the organization

   shall not carry on any other activities not permitted to be carried on by

   an organization exempt from federal Income Tax under section 501(c)

   (3) of the IR code, or by an organization, contributions to which are

   deductible under section 170(c)(2) of the IR code

 

6 Upon dissolution of this organization, after paying or adequately

   providing for the debts and obligations of the organization, the

   remaining assets shall be donated to Somers Point school district

   and St. Joseph school

 

7 The organization shall keep permanent books of accounts and records

   and shall be sufficient to establish the items of gross income, receipts,

   and disbursements of the organization. Such books of accounts and

   records shall be at all reasonable times be open to inspection

 

8 The accounts of the organization shall be audited, annually, by a

   member of the organization not serving on the E- board and who has

   not been party to any financial transaction of the organization during

   that fiscal year

 

ARTICLE IV

MEMBERSHIP

 

Participation in Somers Point Street Hockey Association shall be made available to any individual who’s child is registered with the Somers Point Street Hockey Association without regard to sex, race, creed, color, or national origin.

Others may participate upon executive board approval

 

Membership in this shall be constituted by participation by individuals in the volunteering of their time towards the purposes set forth in ARTICLE II

 

ARTICLE V

OFFICERS

 

The officers of the Somers Point Street Hockey Association shall be President, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Presidents of the Cadet-Beaver-Penguin division, and Player Agent

 

Officers shall be elected by ballot annually in the month of May. However if there is but one nominee for any or each office, the election shall be by voice vote. A majority vote shall elect

 

Officers shall assume their duties at the close of the meeting in June and shall serve for a term of one year or until successors are elected

 

          Notice of election shall be given no less than 14 days prior to election

 

A vacancy occurring in any office shall be filled for the unexpired term by appointment by the E-board.

 

ARTICLE VI

DUTIES OF OFFICERS

The President shall preside over all meetings; shall per form other duties as may prescribed in these bylaws or assigned to him/her by the Association; shall coordinate the work of the other officers and committees of the Association in order that the objectives in ARTICLE II may be promoted

 

The secretary shall record the minutes of all meetings of the organization, shall have a copy of the approved by-laws, and an enrollment list available at each meeting, shall conduct the general correspondence of the organization as directed by the president, and shall perform such duties as may be delegated to him/her

 

The treasurer shall have the custody of all funds of the organization, shall keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures; shall pay out funds in accordance with the approved budget as authorized by the organization

 

Vice-President - Cadets (13-15) shall perform all the duties of the President, in his absence, at regular meetings; shall make a workable schedule for Cadet Division; shall set-up and oversee all tryouts and draft.

 

 Vice-President - Beavers (10-12 shall perform all the duties of the

President, in the absence of the President and Cadet Vice-President, at regular meetings; shall make

a workable schedule for the Beaver Division; shall set-up and oversee all tryouts and draft.

 

Vice-President - Penguins (7-9); shall perform all the duties of the President, in the absence of the

President, Cadet Vice-President, and

Beaver Vice-President regular meetings; shall make a workable schedule for the Penguin Division;

shall set-up and oversee all tryouts and draft.

 

Player Agent –  Represent the best interest of all players involved in the league oversee all drafts in

all divisions. 

 

All officers shall deliver to their successors all official material prior to the beginning of the upcoming summer hockey season

 

ARTICLE VII

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

          The executive committee shall consist of the officers of the organization

          The duties of the executive committee shall be:

a.      to transact necessary business in the intervals between organization’s meetings and such other business as may be    referred to it

b.     to create committees and approve plans of such committees

c.      to approve  all coaches of teams in organizations

 

ARTICLE VIII

MEETINGS

Regular meetings shall be held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays during winter hockey season and 3rd    Monday outside of winter hockey season

 

          Special meetings may be called by the executive committee-giving 7 days   notice

          4 people shall constitute a quorum at any meeting of organization

 

The privilege of holding office and voting shall be open to all members attending 50% of the past 12 meetings prior to vote of election

 

ARTICLE IX

COMMITTEES

1 All committees shall be created by the executive committee as may be                                                   required to promote the objects and interests of the organization.

 

2 Only members shall be eligible to serve as chairpersons or members of the committees,  and only by approval by the executive committee.  Their term shall be for one year or until successors are chosen.

 

3 The chairperson of all committees shall present all plans to the executive committee, and no work shall be undertaken without approval of the executive committee.

 

4 Special committees shall be appointed by the president, executive committee or the Association as deemed necessary to carry on the work of the Association

 

5 The president shall be ex-officio a member of all committees

ARTICLE X

RULES OF ORDER

          Roberts Rules of Order shall govern the proceedings of all meetings of the

          League.                                    

 

ARTICLE XI

FISCAL YEAR

 

The fiscal year shall be from June 1 to May 31 (12 months). The fiscal year may differ from the membership year  

 

ARTICLE XIII

AMENDMENTS

 

The bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the Association by a two-thirds majority vote, with 30 days prior notice given.

 

ARTICLE XIV

ARTICLES OF ORGANIZATION

 

The Association exists as an unincorporated organization of its members

Its “articles of organization” comprise these bylaws , as from time to time amended, and it’s articles of organization, if any. In the absence of separate articles of organization, the bylaws shall be deemed to be the articles of organization. In the event of any conflict between these bylaws and the articles of organization, these bylaws shall govern
