Win EHT Tournament!!!!

The Somers Point Street Hockey freshman team Walked away with the hardware Sunday @ the Nationals in EHT. Capping off a miracle run by defeating EHT, Bellmawr, and Marlton, the team ridded themselves of their demons by winning in overtime on a blast off the stick of Joey Toland (Tournament MVP) to take home the trophy.  

Starting their run against Mays Landing they walked away with a 4-0 victory and 17 points. Next up was Bellmawr. In a game that wasn't even 3 minutes old sparks began to fly and players ended up being ejected. After the smoke cleared Bellmawr left Somers Point with a 5-2 victory and Somers Point Lightning was looking forward to EHT on Friday night in EHT.

 The game was never a contest as Somers Point continued their recent domination EHT. Kyle Pollock scored a hat trick in the game. Their next game pitted them against the Somers Point Thunder. In a spirited game the Lightning came away victorious on Ron Leopardi's 2 goals and headed to Sunday and another date with Bellmawr.

 Sunday's game was a tight match against Bellmawr. By the time Bellmawr could take no more the Lightning had claimed a 2-0 win on goals by Joey Toland and Ken Flanagan. 

 Waiting for the Lightning was a surprise Marlton team who smoked EHT in the other semi final game. Somers Point jumped out to an early 4-1 lead on 2 goals by Tommy Stevens and Harry Faisst also lightning the lamp but Marlton would not roll over. They battled back and finally tied the game very late in the 3rd period and we were headed for overtime.

 In the overtime period both teams had their chances but John Rennick turned Marlton away time after time to give the Lightning a shot to win, and win they did when Toland started the party with his game winning goal on assists from Ron Leopardi and Ken Flanagan.  Harry Faisst was named defensive MVP along with Toland's tournament MVP.
